Who is so awful, they chase everyone out of the club except the 6 they brought with them.
Here's to the opening band,
Who's 6 fans leave before you start your set.
Here's to the opening band,
Who chats with their fan while you wait to set up your gear.
Here's to the opening band,
Who walks on stage during your performance to retrieve something they forgot.
Here's to the opening band,
Who plays past their time, causing you to go on late.
Here's to the opening band,
Who doesn't show up, causing you to go on early, and your fans to miss you.
Here's to the club booking guy,
Who books 8 bands for 4 slots.
Here's to the club booking guy,
Who doesn't know who goes on next.
Here's to the club booking guy,
Who books you for an 8pm slot, and then has you go on at 2am.
Here's to that weird old guy in the club,
Who insists on trying to talk to you while you are playing.
Here's to that weird old guy in the club,
Who wants you to play some song you've never heard.
Here's to that weird old guy in the club,
Who wants you to play so that he can understand the lyrics.
Here's to that weird old guy in the club,
What's he doing there, any way? Maybe he should be the club booking guy.
My non-poetry there was inspired by a fun night at a club watching some bands that was filled with every typical annoyance that bands encounter at clubs. I went to see my former band, and still good friends, Magnuson at a place in Escondido called The Metaphor Cafe. I'm not sure what it was a metaphor of, but it was probably of an amateurs open mic night. There were at least 7 bands on the bill, and only 2 of them were any good. Many of them were just teenage garage bands. Some good musicians, but they hadn't learned to play together yet, and that is key. As previously stated, I was there to see Magnuson, who I try to check out anytime they're within reasonable driving distance. It just so happened that the band following them was Aepnia, a band I had jammed with before, about 6 months prior. Of course I had my camera with me, and I took some shots of both bands.
