Shrug off the routine! Forget staying home when you're sick and can't enjoy it, take a well day!

Tuesday was not a well-day by design, but it may as well have been. I had been offered the opportunity to do a live, acoustic performance with earthShine (in this case, just Jen and I) for an old friend's weekly podcast. Rather than figure out how to arrange my work day in a way that would allow me to get to the convention center by 4pm (I work 10am - 8:30pm), I just took a sick day. I started the day by sleeping in, then just relaxed and did housework (IE: dishes) until the afternoon. Then I showered and headed downtown. Navigating downtown traffic to the convention center was less traumatic than anticipated, and I managed to find Jesse fairly quickly and easily upon reaching the CC. We did some brief hello's and extra brief "catching up" chatter on our way to meet up with Jen, who, coincidentally and conveniently, was attending the same conference and was therefore already there. After sorting through some technical difficulties, the podcast was executed, with 3 of our songs scattered throughout, beginning, middle and end. The performance was well enough, but the audio equipment was piecemeal and I'm not sure how we sounded in the room or the final recording. We shall see. During our setup, I got a call from Mana, who you'll remember from my Memorial Day hiking trip. She had a craving for PF Chang's and was going there with some friends in the evening and wanted to know if I'd like to come. I told her I'd call her when I finished up with the performance and we'd see about details. After the show, I went upstairs with Jen for "Canada Night", an event for all the Canadians attending the conference, which includes Jen and many of her co-workers. There we encountered Scott, who you'll also remember from the hiking trip. Then Mana called back, and said they were leaving for the restaurant. I was ready to leave the conference, so I headed out to meet them. During the process of stuffing myself with chicken and shrimp, it occurred to me what a strange Tuesday it had been. It's good to take a random day off. It's even better when that day winds up being filled with stuff to do away from home. Today will deviate from the norm as well. Jesse and I are going to the Padres game tonight. Always nice to get out to the 'ol ballgame.
